The easy way.

Networkers always ask me, “How can I get more people to engage with me?”

The answer is, “People are reactive. They react to what we say and do. So, ask a question. They will automatically answer back.”

The most interesting questions in the world are about them. People love talking about themselves. This means they talk, and we listen. Listening is not a waste of time. Listening reveals what their problems are, and if we have an opportunity to help them. Need some examples of questions that uncover problems faster?

  • “Tell me about working for that dream-sucking vampire boss you hate. What is it like?”
  • “Do you find that we are just too busy for dieting?”
  • “Apparently skin wrinkles while we sleep. Do you have any strategies to combat wrinkling that you are using now?”

The possibilities are endless. People love to talk about their problems. If we can be good listeners, we will succeed in this business.

This is what keeps me up at night.

I think of this quote: “It is what we don’t know that holds us back.”

I’m always thinking about the things I don’t know that I need to learn for the next step.
