ANY OF THESE SOUND FAMILIAR? KEEP READING TO LEARN HOW YOU CAN CHANGE THIS!
The good thing is that you are not alone. Many people struggle to successfully market themselves and their brand in the beginning stages. Growing your social media and turning your “followers into fans” is possible however there are a few things that you must know in advance…
YOU WILL NOT GROW YOUR AUDIENCE OVERNIGHT
Let’s just say that by chance some of your content has gone viral and you’ve gotten hundreds upon millions of likes and shares…you still have to work to retain every single person that shared your content.
BUYING YOUR WAY TO A FOLLOWING IS NOT THE WAVE
It’s a complete waste of money and it definitely is a reflection of just how serious you take yourself and your brand. Not to mention it’s super embarrassing and people can always tell that your followers have been bought.
Now that that’s been said, let’s get into these 5 top tips on how you can build your social media audience, one fan at a time!
Know Your Audience
In order to sell anything you have to know who you are selling too. What do you want your typical fan or customer to look like? Are they Millennials or Gen-Z’s? What kind of brands do they wear? Are they young professionals? The reason why this is important is because this gives you an idea on the content you can create that will best engage your audience. Your content will always be the deciding factor on whether or not they click “follow” or not.
Engage, Engage, Engage
You know how super annoying it is when you are trying to have a conversation with someone and they only give one word responses? Yeah…same thing goes in the social media world.
No one wants to follow somebody who doesn’t have an engaging presence. That means: a) when someone comments on your photo…comment back!, b) when someone repost/retweet your content…like their post! and c) when someone follows you…acknowledge them, thank them, and consider following back. No need to be a social media snob, these are people that you want to buy your product so be nice!
Think Aesethethics
Branding yourself is essential. When new visitors come to your pages, you want everything to be uniformed and pleasing to the eye. This will help you send a clear message about yourself (or your brand) to potential fans, customers, or clients. What color scheme best represents you? Do you know about the psychology of the color blue? There is always a method to the madness. If you are a new artist, how are people going to know if you’re the same person on Twitter and Instagram if your pages look different? That’s why it’s important that your branding is uniformed across all your social media channels.
Use Hashtags
I don’t think people understand just how powerful and necessary hashtags are in the social media space. That may come from a lack of understanding so I’m here to tell you to use hashtags on your posts! Using hashtags amplifies your reach and makes it easier for people to find your content. Think of hashtags as a way to target your content directly to your consumer. That’s why Tip #1 is so important!
Focus on Quality, Not Quantity
At the end of the day, none of the above matters if you do not create quality content that people want to share. People think that you have to post all day, everyday in order to build your following and that just isn’t true. Eventually you will fall into the spammer category and you do not want to be considered spam. Take the time to post a few high quality content pieces a day and your audience will be much appreciated.
BONUS TIP: It’s also helpful that when you are creating your content, you should always post natively within the network and avoid cross posting as much as possible.
Those are just 5 tips on how you can build your audience on social media. Be sure to share this within your network so that others can be informed on how they can build their tribe. Thank you for reading!
